Merging Art and Science - Teachers Needed

The Cloud Foundation is seeking teaching artists for The Boston 100K ArtScience Innovation Prize, an after-school art and design competition that enables high school students to explore groundbreaking ideas. They are looking for artists working in all mediums to develop weekly workshops that enable students to explore ideas through the arts while working with themes at the cutting edge of science. Participation in the ArtScience Prize offers teaching artists a chance to develop new strategies for exploring interdisciplinary work and help urban teens to discover their passion and creative potential outside a traditional arts education setting. Excited, experienced teaching artists in all arts and design disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Deadline: Fri., July 10.

Sound Massage – Prepare to Get Submerged

This is most definitely a show not to be missed... Immersive Music and Loop 2.4.3 will be gracing the 119 Gallery with two distinctly melodic and original sounds. Immersive Music is the solo marimba of Nathaniel Bartlett. He creates high-definition sound projection and is able to project and move the sound anywhere in a performance space, totally immersing the audience in the music. Loop 2.4.3 employs the gamut of percussion instruments, from marimba and steel drum to tom-toms, bongos and snare drums, temple bowls and wood blocks, opera gongs and lectronics. $10 donation.

Sat., July 11 at 8 pm.

The 119 Gallery has partnered with The Lower Highlands Neighborhood Group to put Artbeat! in Armory park. The event has been moved to a Saturday afternoon and evening to give artists more time to paint and you more time to check out all the talent. There will be food local vendors, so be sure to come hungry! Performers include 3SP, Blak Madeen, The Locksmiths, Madness 2012, and many more.

George Oommen: A Retrospective

George Oommen's work is largely abstract with a landscape flavor. Characterized by a strong horizon and colors from his homeland (rich Indian yellows, olive green, and turquoise blue), he plays with the viewer's focus by interrupting the line of vision with a veil of screens or paint drips. An exhibition of his work will be held in the Parker Gallery.

"Through the Dunes" -- Tony Cerra

Tony Cerra's "Images Of Joppa Flats" is on exhibit at Newburyport's Bridge Gallery. Currently residing in Lowell, Tony has a wide range of talents, from professional jazz musician to pilot to his current occupation, a teacher of cabinetmaking at Nashoba Valley Technical High School in Westford. Preferring to work on-location, Cerra's landscape paintings vibrate with energy and strength, making music with texture, color and light. They are bravely stated and summon a spirit of excitement.

There will be a public reception Sat., July 18 from 6pm - 9pm. The exhibit runs July 1 - July 31, 11am-7pm daily. The Bridge Gallery, 1R Water Street, Newburyport, MA.
