| | Greetings! The free Lowell Folk Festival returns this summer, July 24 - 26, 2009 for the 23rd year. Each year, thousands of music fans make their way downtown to the Lowell Folk Festival, the largest free festival in the country, to enjoy a wide variety of acoustic music. Over twenty local, regional and national acts will perform on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 24-26 offering continuous live music featuring folk, blues, Celtic, bluegrass, folk-rock, world, country, gospel, and Cajun rhythms on six stages. The six stages are all within walking distance from the corner of Merrimack Street and Central Street, allowing for many musical choices. The Festival also features traditional crafts demonstrations, which in 2009 emphasize the skills of Massachusetts artists, many of whom are featured in the "Keepers of Tradition" book and exhibit at the National Heritage Museum. The Lowell Folk Festival will offer fun activities and arts and crafts for all age groups at various locations throughout the entire weekend. Delicious ethnic foods sold by local not-for-profit organizations, continue to be a unique Lowell. Art Walk Lowell is a creative initiative to enliven Lowell's downtown storefronts during the summer of 2009 with displays from over 35 local artists. Art Walk Lowell will run through August 15 where local artists will create colorful, full-window displays on Market, Middle, Merrimack, Bridge, Palmer and Central streets in downtown Lowell. Local residents and Folk Festival patrons can pick up a map of the displays at local restaurants and retailers that will lead patrons from one storefront to the next. With the attached ballot, patrons can vote on their favorite artist display. At the end of the summer, votes will be tabulated and the winning artists will receive cash prizes. With each ballot you will automatically be entered into a raffle. Prizes include local artwork and a free dinner for two! Walk, Vote, Win!!! Free Fun For Kids Series Announced! The Lowell Summer Music Series announces its Free Fun For Kids Series, featuring ten free children's concerts with free art programs before the shows and free trolley rides after the shows each Wednesday and Thursday, July 8th through August 13th. Merrimack Repertory Theatre: Young Artists at Play, 7/6/2009 - 8/14/2009. A summer theatre program for students in grades 1-12, that includes theatre camps, performance seminars and musical theatre workshops.
