"Pray the Devil Back to Hell" : Women's Week Film Screening and Reception

Special Guests! Director Gini Reticker and Janet Johnson Bryant, one of the film's activists.

"Pray the Devil Back to Hell" chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country. Thousands of women armed only with white t-shirts and the courage of their convictions took on the warlords and nonviolently forced a resolution during the stalled peace talks. Inspiring, uplifting, and most of all motivating, the film is a compelling testimony of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.

Thurs., Mar. 4, 6:30pm, Middlesex Community College, Federal Building Assembly Room, 50 Kearney Square, Lowell.

Lowell Women's Week continues
For fifteen years, Lowell Women's Week has celebrated women--from the women who have come before us to the women of today.

The Women's Week celebration takes place during March, proclaimed by a joint resolution of Congress in 1987 as Women's History Month. This month-long observance grew out of Women's History Week, initiated in 1978 by the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women and enacted in 1981 by a Joint Congressional Resolution. At the center of the celebration is International Women's Day, celebrated worldwide on March 8.

All Lowell Women's Week events are free, unless otherwise noted. Events are open to everyone!

Visit www.lowellwomensweek.org for a full schedule.

Ginger Levant: Landscapes and Still Lifes

From the artist, Ginger Levant:

"Landscape is central to my work. The paintings juxtapose human history as seen in local architecture with the wildness of the natural elements. I am inspired by these aspects of my surroundings and react to them visually by finding an underlying pictorial structure through rhythm, movement and infinite variations of patterns of light. Painting on location, these places are sometimes remote-the Spanish
Pyrenees, the hills of Tuscany,
sometimes close by-New York City."

Exhibit runs: March 3-April 17
Reception: March 13, 2-4pm
Hours:
Wed.-Sat., 11am-4pm
