Greetings LSBAC Friend,

This month the Center announced the Lowell Small Business Assistance Center Microloan Fund program. We are very excited to be able to offer financial resources to entrepreneurs while also serving as a technical assistance provider. The Microloan Fund Program serves entrepreneurs in the Merrimack Valley who lack access to conventional credit but who have the capacity to grow their business. Read more about this great program in the resource section below. The Center will be hosting a Microloan Fund orientation for any business interested in learning more on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 6pm. Please RSVP to Terry Williams, Assistant Director at twilliams@comteam.org.

The Center just completed its ten-week Youth Right Start Entrepreneurial Training Program with the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School (LMACS), a public high school in conjunction with Middlesex Community College, catering to students who have left school prior to graduation and those at risk of dropping out. The Youth Right Start Program combines classroom instruction with individual projects in which each student completes a business plan of their own. To celebrate their completion of the program, students visited the successful Pailin Market in Lowell's Lower Highlands neighborhood.  After a tour of the market, cafĂ©, and function hall, students were treated to a buffet lunch by owner Malee Thai. Malee's daughter talked to the students about the process of building their business after the family escaped war in Cambodia and settled in Lowell. The students really enjoyed hearing from a current business owner.

Congratulations on finishing your class!

Sincerely,

Stacie Hargis
Director

Put CLASS to work for your company saving you time and money, while helping individuals with disabilities obtain employment opportunities.

In the mid-70's, a group of families in the Merrimack Valley with disabilities, began to talk about opportunities for their children. Historically, options for families were limited to placing children in institutions or keeping them at home. This group of families had a vision that their children may one day live in a more homelike setting, be provided the opportunity to learn, grow, thrive, work and have rights like any other person. By 1976, those family members, along with community supporters, established the Citizen's League for Adults Special Services - now known as CLASS, Inc. Over the years, the agency grew and diversified. It now serves over 400 individuals and families throughout northeastern Massachusetts. Today services include Assistive Technology, Employment Services, Production Services, Habilitative Services, Family Resources and Advocacy, Clinical & Case Management Support, Recreation and Transportation.

Put CLASS to work for your company saving you time and money, while helping individuals with disabilities obtain employment opportunities. CLASS Works provides competitively priced production services to various industries. CLASS currently holds contracts with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MA, Unifirst and more.
