Summer Jobs for Lowell Youth Campaign

Are you a local employer looking for some extra help this summer? Do you want to provide a great opportunity for a Lowell youth? If yes, you can help.

Due to reduction in funding, the GLWIB and CCL will only have 145 jobs available through the YouthWorks and Shannon Grant this summer.

As a result, City of Lowell Mayor James Millinazzo and City Manager Bernie Lynch, ask that area employers hire a Lowell youth for the summer and beyond. To see the brochure and learn more, click here

Northeast Energy Sector Partnership

The GLWIB continues grant award implementation under the State Energy Sector Partnership working with local companies to provide funding for training incumbent workers. By the end of June, through the efforts of the Career Center of Lowell Business Services team and the GLWIB, 60+ participants from area businesses will be enrolled for training under the grant. Training in multiple occupational clusters including Engineering, HVAC, Facilities Maintenance, Weatherization, Construction-related Occupations, Renewable Installation and Energy Efficiency is being provided through a variety of training providers selected by employers and approved by the GLWIB.

Working with companies to identify training options aligned with their specific business needs and employee skill sets helps ensure grant funding will successfully address those needs. The goal is to help companies increase operational and business performance and to help incumbent workers improve and expand their skill set. Participants  include several local heating and construction companies, a solar installation company and a pilot program with the Lowell Green Building Commission and local area restaurants designed to improve energy utilization.

There are opportunities for unemployed residents of Greater Lowell to receive training in these same occupational clusters. In addition, companies looking to expand their workforce may be eligible for new-hire training. For more information, please contact Gail Brown at the Greater Lowell WIB or the Career Center of Lowell Business Services team.
