Sushi Smackdown III

Join the 119 Gallery for their third installment of the Sushi Smackdown! This year it's bigger, badder and yummier. The Skate Free or Die Roller derby girls will serve up tons of sushi as you watch guest chefs Mitch, Talia, Rick, and Mira whip up some delectable treats. Miss Pretty Stiches will be returning to MC the event.

Westford Author Talks Suspense

Westford author David S. Brody will be speaking about his most recent novel, Cabal of the Westford Knight, a suspense novel inspired by the legend of the Scottish explorers who in 1398 visited Westford and carved an effigy in stone to commemorate the death of a fallen comrade. The author has done extensive scientific, historical and archeological research to create this riveting tale that is a must read for those who love history and adventure. Get Creative with Fused Glass Workshops

Come to Western Ave Studios and design and create a few pieces of fused glass that can be used as a pendant or earrings, or even a bottle stopper. Schedule of sessions:

"Pajama Jam!" with Bernadette Baird

Put on your jammies and join Bernadette Baird from Bright Day Music for a comfy and cozy musical experience at the library. Children and their grownups will learn new songs and move to the rhythms. This program is intended for children age three and younger. Space is limited, registration is required. To register, please call or stop by the Youth Reference Desk beginning June 8. "Pajama Jam!" has been funded by the Family Foundations Network. The Family Foundations Network is a program funded by the Department of Early Education and Care and managed by Community Teamwork, Inc.

Save the Date for Lowell World Cup

Save the date for the 3rd Annual World Cup, a 16-team adult soccer tournament that will celebrate a shared passion for the game of soccer while raising money to help immigrants and refugees in Lowell. Teams represented: Ireland, USA, Portugal, Brazil, Cambodia, Germany, Vietnam, and England. Enjoy kids penalty competition, music, food, and arts & crafts from around the world. Cost: $5 per day, kids under 12 are free.

National Park Releases Progress Report

The Lowell National Historical Park has released a copy of the report, "Preservation and Innovation for Future Generations," which highlights many of the activities and partnerships that LNHP has embarked upon this past year. The report can be viewed or downloaded at:

"Wandering Feet" at the Loading Dock Gallery

Wander over to The Loading Dock Gallery to travel vicariously to Latin America. Pastel painter Bill Tyers and photographer Jack Holmes capture the essence of locations from Mexico to Colombia to Peru in their exhibit "Wandering Feet."

Exhibit runs May 27-June 21, the Loading Dock Gallery at Western Ave Studios, 122 Western Avenue. Reception for the artists June 5 from 6-9pm. Gallery hours are Wed.-Sun., 11am-4:30pm.

Lowell Open Studios & Arts Festival

Temporary Space Available
Anyone who has an artist's studio in Lowell may open his/her studio to the public provided he/she has registered with www.lowellopenstudios.org. Both the Arts League of Lowell and the Brush Art Gallery & Studios are offering temporary space to their members so that they may set up and sell artwork during Lowell Open Studios. The Brush is not charging for sales space, but you MUST register with the Lowell Open Studios organization. Lowell Open Studios is charging a $45 registration fee. For this your name and studio address will be listed in a special Artscope advertisement, a map, and your information and a sample picture of your artwork will be listed on www.lowellopenstudios.org.
