Happy Holidays from the Revolving Museum!

Dear friends of the Revolving Museum,

Entering our 10th year in Lowell, The Revolving Museum continues to build community by using the power of art to inspire creative expression and social change in and around the region. We are in a wonderful state of metamorphosis as we partner with the best in the Humanities and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to expand our offerings and enlarge our audience.

Gears are grinding and flywheels will whirl as we use the literature, history, aesthetics and philosophy of the Victorian tradition as a topic of discussion, examination, interpretation and inspiration for Dickens and Steampunk, an arts and humanities collaboration with UMass Lowell. Our STEM education kicks into high gear with all new computers, thanks to a generous grant from Verizon, which will enable us to expand our Artbotics programming.

Coming online in a matter of days will be our new 3D printer, capable of printing objects for prototypes; it will assist our engineering component in Artbotics as well as create accoutrements for the fashion program. Mill girl dresses will take a whirl bouncing from studio to studio as prototypes. Designed by our Artistic Director Diana Coluntino, the dresses will be distributed amongst artists to be transformed for Lowell’s Winterfest.

As many of you already know, The Revolving Museum was selected as a 2011 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award Finalist. We will be honored, along with other Massachusetts finalists, at the State House on March 22nd.

So the reason for our appeal is a simple one. We want to continue to fill our space with creativity, energy and community. We need your help to fulfill our mission, and as we grow to serve more and more members of your community, now is the time to become part of our legacy and the next decade of arts development in Lowell. We seek your partnership in planting the seeds that will produce the next generation of creative and innovative thinkers, as well as providing a place where adult learners can practice a newfound talent or revisit a dream with renewed energy and support.

"After 3 times in Artbotics I feel more confident with my artwork and I'm thinking about engineering. I've been so interested in it. The museum is like a comfort zone."

- Evangelia Voraphonh, sophmore at Lowell High School

"Bernard Long, a 21 year old multimedia artist, conceptualized a new fashion accessory he calls the 'Neckhood,' and produced it in the Revolving Museum's fashion lab. Bernard applied for and received a $500 venture capital award from the Campus Catalyst Grant Program. This has inspired him to continue developing his idea, and has since begun creating fashionable vests."

- Joe McFadzen, Art Technician

Please consider a tax-deductible donation of $100, or $1,000, or whatever you might like to give, to help us share our creativity. Your tax-deductible gift will go directly to The Revolving Museum to support its programs:

Artbotics, a partnership with UML Computer Science and Art Departments which began in 2006, fuses technology and art through a curriculum that combines computer science with visual design.

The ARTicle Fashion Program introduces students to the fascinating world of fashion design and
