Come out and get an insider's look into the preservation of nearly thirty of Lowell's fabulous historic buildings, many not normally open to the public. It's a celebration of urban living and culture where people and preservation have made Lowell a creative and exciting place to live, work, and visit!

Join the Lowell National Historical Park (LNHP) and the Lowell Heritage Partnership in recognizing recipients of cultural heritage and historic preservation awards as well as the opening of a new exhibit on the history of historic preservation in New England and Lowell sponsored by Historic New England. A Massachusetts artist commissioned to paint a total of thirty-one federal judicial portraits as part of a historical project in the United States Federal Court in Puerto Rico has just completed the final painting. The three-year project was awarded to David Wells Roth, a Boston painter. The remaining five portraits will be on public display at the Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell in an exhibition along with Roth's cityscapes, still lifes, and early portraits. | Brenda Cirioni is currently exhibiting work at the Groton Public Library until Fri., June 25. Brenda will give a talk about her work at the artist's reception on Tue., May 18, 6:30-8pm.
Cirioni's paintings are characterized by her attention to surface and a sense of touch. Her work is inspired by the land around her; woods, pastures and ponds. These ethereal, impressionistic landscapes convey a world both solitary and meditative, filled with promise and hope. The exhibit and artist's talk was made possible by the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust and the Groton Trust Funds Lecture Fund. This 1940 biographic film traces Lincoln's life from the time he left Kentucky to his presidency. John Lincoln Clem was born in Newark, Ohio, and gained fame as the drummer boy who ran away from home to enlist in the 22nd Michigan Infantry at the age of 11. He was the youngest noncommissioned officer in Army history. Legend suggests he came near to dying when a piece of shrapnel crashed through his drum and left him unconscious at the Battle of Shiloh. Lead weekly one-hour class at the International Institute of Lowell of school aged, refugee children for 5 weeks through the summer. Provide art instruction and develop creative projects for the class using various media and materials. Class size capped at 15 pupils. Goal of the class is to gain experience with various media and materials and to provide a safe place for the creative outlet of children who have experienced trauma and loss. Ultimate goal is to produce artwork that we could display at the office and pieces that the children can bring home for display or keep in a portfolio.
