Final Phases of Work on Downtown Improvements for this Season
Full Completion – Spring 2010

Please be advised that the road closures and detour routes will need to be implemented this weekend to finish the majority of work associated with the improvements to the intersection of Market/Central/Prescott.

Overall, work includes removal of all cobble and granite to be replaced with a binder coat of asphalt and temporary painted crosswalks at ramps for the winter months.

This weekend is the 2nd phase of work. Access to businesses, delivery vehicles, residents, visitors, and customers will be maintained at all times by implementing temporary 2-way operation on Prescott Street during the closure. Detour routes are well signed and police details will be present for all shifts of work.

Spring 2010 less disruptive intersection work will include details such as new curb, new ADA compliant handicapped ramps, and decorative new crosswalks outlined with granite with a smooth concrete walk surface, final asphalt coat and stop lines and lane markings. This schedule and phasing was developed to cause minimum disruption to traffic for the shortest period of time.

Inspectors will be in the field to answer questions quickly, see that work moves forward and is completed as quickly as possible. Shifts will be reduced or extended as needed to meet completion date of Nov. 23 at the intersection. Work on Middle/Palmer/Shattuck will continue until weather prohibits.

Final details of all cobble, crosswalk, and ramp work will be completed in the Spring of 2010. Spring work is expected to cause less disruption than the bulk of this year’s work. Your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated. Our Downtown will be enhanced for all to enjoy.

REVISED — Phase 2 – starting November 21, 2009
Phase II estimated at less than 22 hrs. with 2 shifts running approximately 7a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday and a possible Sunday shift to complete work. A short shift on Monday will be needed to complete all paving by no later than 1 p.m. All Monday work will attempt to minimize disruption during peak travel hours if possible. Prescott Street will be re-opened when work crews are not present.
