Greetings! On March 20, 2012, the GLWIB held its Quarterly Meeting in conjunction with the Connecting Activities Employer Appreciation Breakfast at the Radisson Hotel & Suites in Chelmsford, MA. Each year the WIB hosts a breakfast for employers in our region who participate in youth employment initiatives. This year, the GLWIB provided Board members with the opportunity to meet these very important employers. Each employer was presented with a certificate of appreciation. Mel Moundele, General Manager at Burger King on Drum Hill Road in Chelmsford, was named 2012 Employer of the Year, and Maureen Fitzpatrick, Human Resources Generalist at Lowell General Hospital was awarded the 2012 Award of Excellence. Matt Furtado (right), a Sophomore Engineering student at UMass Lowell spoke at the event. Matt began working at Burger King when he was 16. He was assisted by GLWIB Connecting Activities staff in finding the position and is now Manager at the Burger King on Drum Hill Road in Chelmsford. Matt spoke on the importance of a teenager's first job. The Connecting Activities program hosts an Annual Youth Job Fair at Lowell High School on May 3, 2012. For more information on how you can be involved, please contact Beatriz Sierra or Cathy Sturtevant.
